Being located right on Mall Road means there is never a quiet moment for us. People are always walking past the front door, especially when the weather gets warm. We spend a lot of our time just rearranging the frozen food sections because people tend to move things around while they are looking. The freezers have that constant low buzz that you eventually stop hearing after working here for an hour or two. It feels a bit cramped in the shop because we try to fit so many different products into the glass cases. We get our morning deliveries when the street is still a bit sleepy and quiet, but by noon, it turns into a total scramble. The glass on the freezer doors gets fingerprints on it constantly, so someone is always out there with a rag trying to keep it clean. We do not have any fancy decorations or bright signs. It is mostly just white walls and tile floors that are easy to mop down at night. Sometimes the power fluctuates in this area and we all get a little nervous about the compressors, but they usually hold up okay. It is a lot of physical work, lifting heavy boxes and standing on your feet for the whole day. We see the same faces every week coming in for their frozen goods. Mall Road has changed a lot since we first started, but we are still right here in the same spot. It is just a regular shop run by people who live nearby.
