Doon Animal Welfare Foundation

We’re located at 59-22 in Moti Bazar, right in the heart of Dehradun Central. If you’ve ever walked through Moti Bazar, you know how packed and chaotic it can be. There are shops everywhere and people pushing past each other. In the middle of all that, there are a lot of animals—mostly dogs and the occasional cow—that don’t really have anyone looking after them. That’s why we started Doon Animal Welfare Foundation. Our space is small and often smells a bit like medicine or dog shampoo. It’s definitely not a polished office. We spend most of our time out on the streets of the bazar rather than sitting behind a desk. We’re a small group, just a few of us who couldn't stand seeing the local street animals suffering. We deal with injuries, hunger, and just the general rough life of a stray. It’s messy work and we’re often covered in dirt or hair by the end of the shift. We don’t have much in the way of fancy equipment, but we do what we can with what’s available. People in the bazar know us now, and they’ll call out if they see an animal that needs help. It’s a tough environment, but it’s our home. We just want the animals here to have a slightly better time of it. There is always a lot to do in the central bazar and we just take it one day at a time.
