Vinayaka Rice Mill

We’re on the Main Road in Shimoga. Vinayaka Rice Mill is what we call the place. It’s a pretty straightforward setup we have here. We deal with rice, which is what most people in this part of Shimoga are used to. The building at 264/84 has been our base for a while. You can't miss it if you're driving down the main stretch. It gets pretty noisy when the hullers are going, but that's the sound of work being done. We usually start early in the morning before the sun gets too hot. By midday, the place is humming. We’re not a big corporate office or anything. It’s mostly just a few of us making sure the bags are filled and the quality is okay. We see a lot of familiar faces coming through the gates. Some of the farmers have been bringing their paddy here for years. We know their names and they know ours. It’s a local thing. The rain can be a bit of a pain during the monsoon, making the yard muddy, but we manage. We don’t have fancy brochures. If someone wants to know about us, they just come by and talk. We keep the machines oiled and the floors swept as much as we can. It’s honest work. Sometimes things break down and we have to spend half the night fixing a motor, but that’s part of the job. Shimoga is a good place for this kind of work.
