Guttiyamma Store

Down at 254 near Pura in Narasimharajapura, life feels a bit quieter than the big cities. Our little store carries the basic things that households around here might need in a hurry. On the shelves, you’ll find jars of biscuits, packets of tea, and simple items like soap or matches. The wooden shelves are getting old and they creak whenever we restock them. We have a few light bulbs that make a low humming sound when the sun goes down. Most people who come through the door are neighbors we have known for many years. They stop in for a few items and usually stay to chat about the rain or the local news. We don't have a big staff or any fancy signs out front. It is usually just me or my wife behind the counter from morning until night. Sometimes a stray cat wanders in to get out of the rain, and we just let it be. We still use a ledger for people who prefer to pay at the end of the month. The system is simple, but it has worked for us for a long time. Mornings are spent cleaning and putting out new stock. In the afternoon, the whole area gets very still. We might even catch a quick nap if nobody is around. It’s a peaceful way to work, and we don't really want for anything else. People know where to find us.
