Shriram Flour Mill

Shriram Flour Mill is located right in Basai Village, not far from the railway station. If you’re coming from the Pichhore Post Office side, it’s a pretty easy walk. We spend most of our days covered in a bit of dust because that’s just the nature of running a mill in Datia Tehsil. The sound of the machines is something you get used to after a while. It’s loud, but it means work is getting done. Being so close to the station means we hear the trains go by all the time, which kind of keeps us on schedule. The locals from around Datia District come by often with their bags. We don’t have any fancy office or anything like that. It’s just the mill floor and the space where we keep the grain. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just wait it out, chatting with whoever is around. It’s a basic setup. We get the grain, we grind it, and people take it home. There is no big secret to it. It’s hard work, especially when it’s hot outside, but it is what we do. The floor is usually white with flour, and we try to sweep up at the end of the day, though it never stays clean for long. That’s just life at Shriram Flour Mill. We’ve been here in Basai for a good bit now. It is a simple place for a simple job, and we don't mind the noise.
