North East Handicraft Emporium

Down in the Missamari Old Market in the Sonitpur district, you will find our little shop, the North East Handicraft Emporium. It is right in the middle of all the local market buzz. We have all sorts of things made by hand, like bamboo items, woven cloths, and traditional pieces from around the region. The shop is often crowded with stock because we like to have a bit of everything on display for whoever walks in. It smells like wood and dried grass inside the door. Most of our days are spent talking to people who walk through the market or checking on new items brought in by the local artisans from the villages. Missamari is a place where everyone knows everyone, so it is a very social environment for us. We do not have a website or a fancy catalog; you just have to come in and see what is sitting on the shelves that day. Sometimes the floor is a bit dusty and the lighting is not the best, but that is just the character of being in the old market. We have been here for a long time, watching the seasons change and the market get busier during the festival times. It is simple work, showing people the crafts and making sure the items are kept in good condition. It is nice to see tourists occasionally wandering through the old market, looking at the colorful fabrics we keep on the hangers.
