Up here in the Arki Tehsil of Solan District, the landscape is quite rugged. That is where we are located with Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd. Being in Himachal Pradesh, the environment is very different from the plains. The air is thinner and the roads are winding, which makes the logistics of moving cement quite a challenge. We have a lot of heavy machinery around the site, and there is always the sound of engines running. It’s a large operation, but at the end of the day, it’s just a bunch of people working hard to get the cement bagged and shipped out. The workers here come from the nearby villages, so there is a real local feel to the place despite the big name. We deal with a lot of dust, which is unavoidable in this line of work. Every day we see the trucks lining up to get loaded before they head down the hills toward the bigger cities. It’s not the easiest place to work because of the terrain, but we are used to it by now. We focus on the practical side of things, like keeping the mixers running and making sure the quality is what it should be. The weather can change fast in the mountains, so we always have to be ready for rain or cold snaps that might slow us down.
