My shop is in Room Number 3 on the first floor of Gandhi Market, right on M.R Road in Naya Bazaar. It’s a small space, but it’s enough for what I do. Being in Naya Bazaar means it is always crowded and noisy, especially in the afternoons when everyone is trying to move their goods. I’ve been working under my own name, Sanjay Sharma, for many years now. I mostly handle small-scale trading and brokerage for different goods that come through the market. The stairs up to the first floor are a bit steep and narrow, but people find their way here eventually. Inside, I have a desk, a couple of chairs for visitors, and shelves for my files. It’s not a corporate office with a lobby; it’s just a room where I conduct my business. Sometimes I have to go down to the street level to check on a shipment or talk to a driver, so I might leave a note on the door for a few minutes. I don't have a staff of twenty people, just a couple of guys who help me with the heavy lifting and the deliveries. We drink a lot of tea while we talk about the market prices and what’s coming in next week. It’s a simple way of working, without any big complications or fancy mission statements. I just try to keep my word and make sure the goods are delivered as promised. It’s a busy life.
