Freelance Journalist

You can find me over at Bagha Jatin Main Road in Siliguri, right across from the SBI ATM. I share a bit of space with Sova Enterprise there. Being a journalist in this part of West Bengal means there is always something going on. I don’t work for one big newspaper; I just write for whoever needs a story or a report on what’s happening in our district. It’s a lot of walking around, talking to people, and taking notes on a pad that usually gets a bit messy. I’ve been doing this for a long time, so I know a lot of the local faces around Darjeeling and Siliguri. My setup is pretty modest, just a desk where I can type up my drafts and send them off. Sometimes I’m reporting on local politics, other times it’s just something interesting happening in the neighborhood. It’s not the kind of job where you get rich, but I like being the one to tell the story. I spend a lot of my time drinking tea and listening to what people have to say. You learn a lot more that way than by just reading the news online. The traffic on the main road can be a bit much, but it’s a good spot to be in if you want to stay connected to what's happening. I just write things as I see them. Sometimes I miss a deadline by an hour because a conversation went long, but that's life.
