Maharaja Agrasen Hospital

Out here in Fulbari, things can get pretty dusty because we are right beside the truck terminus. It’s a busy part of Jalpaiguri, and Maharaja Agrasen Hospital sits right in the middle of all that noise. You can hear the big engines idling and the horns honking throughout the day. The hospital is a place where a lot of different people end up stopping by. The floors are hard tile and they get a workout with all the boots and sandals walking across them. We have a few benches outside where people sit if it gets too stuffy inside. Inside, it’s mostly just functional. We have the rooms laid out in a way that made sense years ago, and we just stick with it. The staff mostly comes from around the district, so everyone speaks the local way and knows the shortcuts through town. Sometimes the electricity flickers when the weather gets bad, but that’s just how it is in this part of West Bengal. We keep extra torches around just in case. It’s not a quiet, peaceful retreat by any means, but it’s an important spot for the folks around the terminus. The windows usually need a good wipe because of the road grime, but we do our best to keep the place decent for whoever walks through the door. It’s just a honest, working building. Every day is much like the last one around here.
