Everest Hut Homestay

Living and working in Lamahatta means you get used to the mist and the quiet. Everest Hut Homestay is basically our home that we opened up to others. It is not a hotel with a lobby or a uniform-wearing staff. It is just us. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen or out in the small garden area. The weather changes fast here, so we are always moving chairs inside or hanging laundry when the sun finally comes out. We have a few rooms that we keep clean, though they are simple. There are no elevators here, just wooden stairs that creak a bit when you walk on them. We cook what is available and usually share a meal near the fire if it is cold at night. Sometimes the power goes out during a storm, and we just light some candles and wait. It is a very different life from the city. We wake up when the birds start making noise and usually go to bed early. We don’t have a big sign out front, just a small one so people don’t miss the turn. It is mostly peaceful here, except when the wind really picks up through the trees. We spend our days making beds, sweeping the floors, and talking to whoever happens to be staying with us that week. It is a lot of work but we enjoy the mountain air and the new faces.
