If you are walking down Tara Shankar Road in Deshbondhu Para, you will see our place at number 9. It is right there in the heart of Siliguri, which can get quite busy depending on the time of day. Debarati Ghosh started things here quite some time ago and we have stayed put ever since. The building has that old Siliguri feel to it, a bit worn around the edges but sturdy enough for us. We spend most of our time dealing with the paperwork and the odd jobs that keep a small place like this running. It gets pretty loud outside when the school nearby lets out, but we are used to the rhythm of the street by now. Inside, things are a bit cluttered. We have files stacked up and the tea kettle is usually running in the back corner. It is a practical space, nothing like those modern offices you see in the big cities. We just focus on getting through the day and helping out the folks who come through the door. Sometimes the monsoon rains make the road a bit messy, but that is just part of living in Darjeeling district. We don't spend much time worrying about the small stuff. It's just a regular day at the office for us, making sure the local needs are met and the work gets done properly before the sun goes down and we lock up.
