Dayal Store

Dayal Store is right in the middle of New Market in Panitanki. If you have spent any time in the Darjeeling district, you probably know how busy it gets around here. Our shop is a bit small, but we try to keep it packed with all the things people need for their daily lives. We see a lot of the same faces every week, which is the best part of being in this neighborhood. It gets cold here in the winters, so we usually have some heavy curtains up to keep the draft out. The shelves are always a work in progress because things sell fast and we are constantly dragging boxes from the back to restock. Sometimes the lighting isn't great, but everyone finds what they are looking for eventually. We have been at this address for quite some time now. My family helps out behind the counter when things get really crowded during the festival seasons. It can be a bit loud outside with the market chatter and the traffic, but that is just life in Panitanki. We don't have a big website or anything like that. People just walk in, say hello, and grab their groceries or household items. We keep a ledger for the regulars and try to make sure we do not run out of the basics like rice and oil. It is a simple business, really. We open early and close when the street quietens down at night. Just a local store doing what we can for the neighbors.
