Sasna is a nice enough place to be, and that’s where you’ll find us. We’re tucked away in Tola Madhubani. Birendra Kumar and the family have been here for a long time. This agro company is just an extension of what we’ve always done. Madhubani is famous for its art, but out here in the village, it’s all about the ground and what it can produce. We don’t have a corporate office with air conditioning. We just have the porch and a few rooms where we keep the registers. The sun gets really hot in the middle of the day, so we do most of our heavy moving in the early morning. It’s a family-run thing, so there’s always someone drinking tea and talking about the rain. We handle a bit of everything, from seeds to whatever the farmers in Sasna are growing this year. We don’t use any of those fancy business terms. We just say what we mean. If the crop is good, we’re happy. If the market is down, we figure it out together. It’s a simple life, really. You walk down the dirt paths, talk to your neighbors, and try to make the business work. We’ve been here in Tola Madhubani for years, and the agro company is just our way of keeping the tradition going in a more official way.
