Essar Steel

Down here in Kirandul, things are a bit different than in the big cities. We are in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Being part of the Essar Steel setup in this region means we are right in the thick of things. The landscape is rugged and it can be tough. Our address is simply Kirandul, 494556. There isn't a complex street name or a building number because everyone around here knows the area well. It’s a mining and steel kind of town. We spend a lot of our time dealing with the reality of the terrain. Our office is very basic. We have exactly what we need to get the work done and not much else. It gets dusty and the rain can be incredibly heavy during the monsoon, but the work doesn't stop for that. People here are used to the grind. We don't use big words or have meetings that last all day for no reason. We just check the shipments and talk to the guys working on the ground. It’s honest work. India is a big country, and this corner of Chhattisgarh plays its part. We’ve been here long enough that the sounds of the heavy machinery feel like background noise. It’s not a place for tourists, that’s for sure. We just stay focused on the steel and the daily tasks. That’s just the way it is in Kirandul.
