Heidelberg Cement India Ltd.

Down here in Village Narsingarh, things move at a slightly different pace than in the big cities. We’re part of the Heidelberg Cement India Ltd. operations based out of this area. It’s a lot of open space and dust, as you’d expect with cement work. The village is where we spend our days, surrounded by the machinery and the trucks coming in to load up. It’s a practical environment. We aren't sitting in air-conditioned glass offices all day. Most of the staff are local people or folks who’ve moved here for the work. We wear boots and hard hats because it's a site, not a mall. The routine is pretty much the same every day—checking the production, watching the gates, and making sure the paperwork for the transport is sorted out. There’s a lot of noise from the heavy equipment, so you have to talk loud to be heard. At lunch, we usually sit together and talk about normal things, not just the job. It’s a community feel even though it’s a big company name on the gate. The sun can be quite harsh out here in Narsingarh, so we drink a lot of water. It’s not a glamorous life, but the work is important for the building projects happening all over the state. We just do our part and go home when the shift ends. It is a long day but the air is a bit fresher than the city.
