You can find us over in Diu, specifically at Khaniya Wada near Vijay Chowk. The office is actually at Narotam Rugnath’s place. Working in Diu is a bit different because of the coastal air; sometimes things get a bit damp or salty if the wind is blowing the right way. We handle exports, so there’s a lot of time spent checking regulations and making sure the boxes are taped up tight. It’s a small operation. We don’t have a big warehouse or a fleet of trucks. Most of our work is done on the phone or through the local post. The area around Vijay Chowk is pretty busy with people and bikes, so it can be noisy during the middle of the day. We usually keep the front door open to let a breeze in. The office is just a couple of rooms with some sturdy wooden tables and a lot of filing cabinets. We’ve lived here a long time, so we know most of the people who walk by every day. It’s a local business through and through. We don’t put on any acts of being bigger than we are. If the internet goes down, we just wait it out and talk to the neighbors. It’s a simple lifestyle, and we focus on getting our export orders out to the port without any mistakes. It takes a lot of patience to deal with all the paperwork involved in this trade.
