Ay Travel

Our place for Ay Travel is right by Dal Lake. It is hard to miss because the water is right there in front of us. Living and working near the lake means you see the boats going back and forth all day long. The shikaras are always moving and the tourists are everywhere during the busy season. When the sun sets the water changes color and it is a nice thing to see from the doorway. We don't have a big fancy office building. It is just a small space where we keep our things. The air smells like the lake and sometimes like wood smoke from the nearby houses. It gets very cold here in the winter months and the water starts to freeze at the edges. We have a small heater that we huddle around while we work. The name Ay Travel is on a small board but mostly people just know us because we are always sitting here. We have a kettle for making tea which we drink a lot of when the cold wind picks up off the water. It is a busy spot but it feels different from the city center. You have to deal with the dampness sometimes but you get used to it. We just do our work and watch the life on the lake happen around us. It is a slow kind of life but we like it that way. We stay here until the evening light fades away.
