Royal Furniture

We’ve been here at Somayaji House on Bunts Hostel Road for a while now. Most people around Mangalore know this spot because it's right near the main junction. It’s usually quite busy out on the street, so inside the shop is where we spend most of our daylight hours. We have all sorts of tables and cupboards tucked away in different corners. Sometimes the place feels a bit crowded when a new shipment comes in from the truck, but we manage. My uncle started this place and I just sort of took over the daily stuff. Most mornings start with dusting off the wooden surfaces because the road outside brings in a lot of grit. We don't have a big fancy website or anything like that. People just walk in, sit on a few chairs to see if they’re sturdy, and ask about prices. We try to keep things simple here. It’s just us and a few helpers moving heavy items around all day. If you’re walking past the hostel area, you’ll see our sign. It isn't anything flashy, just the name Royal Furniture. We spend a lot of time talking to the same regular delivery drivers. Sometimes the weather gets really humid and the wood acts up, so we have to keep an eye on everything. It’s just a normal workplace, really. Nothing too complicated about how we do things. We just open up, show people what we have, and hope the rain stays away.
