About M. Vaman Nayak & Sons – Gifts in Dakshina Kannada
Our place, M. Vaman Nayak & Sons, is in the Nayaks Complex over in Jeppu. We’ve been around for a long time, and the building bears the family name, so it’s pretty well-integrated into the local area. We use P.O. Box No-508 for our mail, which is how people have been reaching us for decades. The shop isn't anything fancy. We have the same counters and shelves we’ve used for years. It smells a bit like old paper and metal, which is a scent we’ve all grown used to. We do a variety of things here, mostly focusing on traditional trade and keeping the business running the way it always has. We don't use any complicated systems; we still write a lot of things down by hand in ledgers. It feels more reliable that way. The Jeppu area is home to us, and we know most of the families who live nearby. People stop in not just to buy things, but sometimes just to say hello or ask how the family is doing. We don't have a marketing department or anyone telling us how to talk to customers. We just treat people fairly and hope they come back when they need something. It’s a slow-paced life compared to the city center, and we like it that way. The fans overhead creak a little, and the floor is worn down in the spots where people stand the most, but it’s a good place to work.
