We are based out of Plot No. 104 on the Gidc side near Ahmedabad Road. It’s a busy area with a lot of traffic passing by all day. Our days usually start early when the first load of timber arrives. You can usually find us sorting through piles of wood to see what’s good for building and what’s just scrap. There’s always a lot of dust in the air, so we keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze we can get. Working with wood is a bit of a craft, even if we’re just making basic stuff like frames or supports. Sometimes we run out of a certain size and have to wait for the next delivery, which can be a real headache. The guys here have been doing this for years, so they don’t need much direction. We just get the orders and start measuring and cutting. It’s a lot of standing on your feet on concrete floors, which gets tiring by the afternoon. We have a small corner for tea breaks where we sit for a few minutes before getting back to the saws. It’s a simple setup, nothing too fancy, just a workshop where we put in our hours and try to keep things moving. The road outside is always loud with trucks, but we don’t notice it anymore after all this time working here on the plot.
