Service Engineer

Padmini Sahu has this place set up in Rajendra Nagar on Ananda Lane. We’re in the Madhupattna area of Cuttack, which is a pretty good spot for us. The workshop is a bit small and it can get quite hot and humid, especially during the monsoon months in Orissa. We don't have any fancy cooling systems, just a couple of fans that we keep running all day long. Our work as service engineers is mostly focused on fixing things that people bring in from the neighborhood. We don't have a big office or any professional staff. It’s just a few of us who have been doing this for a long time. The floor is usually covered in parts and the walls are lined with shelves that are overflowing with old gear. We don't bother with much cleaning until the end of the week because it just gets messy again the next morning. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not. We’re just a local repair shop where you can get your stuff looked at without a lot of fuss. Sometimes we can fix things right away, and other times it takes a few days to figure out what’s wrong. We don't have a fancy system for keeping track of everything, just some handwritten notes. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it has worked for us so far. We just keep our heads down.
