Sri Kamatchi Modern Rice Mill

Sri Kamatchi Modern Rice Mill is tucked away at Plot No 4 on Bogi Street. We are in the Kagithapattarai area, which is pretty close to the Main Road. The mill stays quite busy throughout the week. You can hear the machines running from all the way down the street most mornings. It’s a loud, rhythmic thumping sound that we’ve all grown accustomed to. The air inside is usually thick with the smell of toasted husks and raw paddy. We handle a lot of rice here, moving heavy sacks from the machines to the storage area. It’s hard work and we usually end the day covered in a fine layer of white dust. Bogi Street isn't very wide, so when the tractors come in to drop off the grain, it gets a bit tight for anyone else trying to pass. We have a small office space but we spend most of our time out on the floor making sure the machinery is running like it should. Sometimes a belt breaks or something gets clogged, and everything stops while we fix it. It’s just how it is with older equipment. People from around Kagithapattarai know us as the place to get their rice processed. We don't do much advertising; the noise and the location near the main road pretty much let people know we are here. It’s a straightforward business and we just keep the machines going day after day, year after year. It is a long process but we don't mind the noise or the work.
