Sri Angalamman Rice Traders

You can find Sri Angalamman Rice Traders over at 211 TVK Road in Ammapettai. We are right opposite to Kannan Bakery, so if you smell the bread baking, you are probably close to our door too. Our shop is filled with different types of rice in big open sacks so people can see what they are getting. We’ve been at this spot for a while, and the street outside is always noisy with bikes and people walking by. It is a simple place with concrete floors and high stacks of bags reaching almost to the ceiling. We spend the day weighing out kilos for customers and tying up bags with twine. The dust from the rice can get on everything, so we are always sweeping it out of the corners. We don't use any fancy computers to keep track of things; we just use a bill book and a pen. It is a lot of heavy lifting when the new stock arrives on the trucks. Sometimes we have to move dozens of bags in the heat, which really wears you out. We know a lot of the families in the neighborhood because they come in every week for their regular supply. It’s just a basic shop where we try to keep the rice dry and the customers moving along so the sidewalk doesn't get too crowded for everyone else.
