Arun Tea Shop

Arun Tea Shop has been a part of Kanagasabai Nagar for a good while. You can find us at 16/7, right here in Chidambaram. It is a simple place where people come to get their tea and maybe a small snack. We open early in the morning before most people are even awake. The stove stays hot all day. It’s not a fancy cafe with air conditioning or soft chairs. We have some basic benches and a counter where we serve everyone. The walls have some stains from the steam and the tea, but that’s normal for a shop like this. We see the same faces every day, mostly workers and people living nearby. It gets very crowded during the morning and evening hours. Sometimes we run out of milk or sugar and have to send someone to the market quickly. We don't really have a menu on the wall, people just know what we have. It’s a noisy place with a lot of chatting going on. We don't mind the noise, it means people are happy to be here. Chidambaram is a busy town and we are glad to be a small part of it. We don't have a website or anything like that. If you need a cup of tea, you just walk in. That is how we have always run things. The kettle is almost always whistling and the tea is always hot.
