Life out here in Bhogramguri is mostly about the land and what grows on it. At Shri Bishnu Multigrain Private Limited, we spend our days dealing with grains—wheat, corn, and whatever else the season brings. Our location in the Mathabhanga area of Coochbehar is right in the heart of the farming community. The air always smells a bit like dusty grain and earth. It’s a simple setup. We have the machinery for processing, and it makes a lot of noise throughout the day. You have to shout sometimes just to be heard over the grinders. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning. Instead, we have a small room with a wooden table where we keep our ledgers. Most of our work is manual—hauling heavy sacks and checking the quality of the grains by hand. It’s tough on the back, but it’s what we know. People from the village often drop by to see how things are going or to sell their harvest. We’re not a big corporation with a lot of rules. We just follow the rhythm of the harvest and the seasons. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to spend the whole afternoon fixing them with whatever tools we have. It’s just us, the grains, and the local weather. We keep it honest and try to do a good job for the neighbors who rely on us.
