The village of Kharija is where we have our little setup, right in the Kakribari area of Coochbehar. Mrinal Kanti Chanda is the person who looks after things here. The office is a bit of a distance from the main hub of the city, which makes it a lot more peaceful. We have a small yard out front where a few trees grow, giving us some nice shade during the hotter months. The building itself is quite old, with thick walls that keep the inside relatively cool. We don't have a lot of modern furniture, just some sturdy chairs and tables that have seen a lot of use over the years. We spend our days mostly going over figures and talking to the people who walk in from the nearby homes. It’s a very personal way of doing things, where we know most of the people by their first names. We don't use a lot of complicated technology; a few basic tools are enough for what we need to do. The sound of birds is usually louder than the sound of cars around here. We usually close up early enough to get home before it gets too dark, as the roads aren't very well lit. It’s a quiet life and a quiet office, and that suits us just fine. We just focus on the task at hand and try to be helpful to anyone who stops by.
