You can find Swadeshi Plywoods & Glass House right on Mettupalayam Road at number 684. It’s a busy stretch of road with a lot of trucks and cars passing by all day long. Our shop is a bit of a mix between a showroom and a warehouse. There’s the smell of cut wood and the sound of glass being moved carefully. It’s not a polished retail store. We’ve got stacks of plywood leaning against the walls and crates of glass sheets tucked in the back. The floor is usually covered in a bit of sawdust, no matter how much we sweep. Customers come in looking for specific sizes, and we spend a lot of time measuring and double-checking things. It gets quite warm in the middle of the day, especially with the sun hitting the front of the shop. We usually have a radio playing somewhere in the background to keep things lively. It’s a family-style environment where we all know each other’s names. We don’t have a website or fancy brochures. People mostly find us by seeing the sign as they drive past or through word of mouth from local builders. We’ve been here for years, and the shop has grown bit by bit. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living, dealing with materials that people need for their homes and businesses. We just stay busy and hope the rain stays out so the wood stays dry. It's a lot of manual work but we enjoy it.
