About Sri Parvatha Sculptures – Art & Craft in Coimbatore
Down at No. 215/2 in Ganapathy Sivasakthi Colony, there is usually a layer of fine stone dust on everything. That’s just part of life at Sri Parvatha Sculptures. We’ve been at this location for a long time, working with our hands and seeing what comes of it. The colony is a residential area mostly, so we try to keep the noise down during the early hours, though carving isn't exactly a quiet job. The neighbors are nice enough about it. We have a lot of heavy pieces sitting around the yard. Some are finished and others are just blocks waiting for someone to start on them. It’s physical work that leaves your back aching by the end of the shift. We don't really do much in the way of talking about ourselves. The work sits there in the yard for anyone to see if they’re walking down the street. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here if you don't know the turns in Sivasakthi Colony, but we like the quiet of this specific spot. The sun hits the front of the shop in the afternoon and that’s usually when we stop for a bit of water. It’s a slow process, making things from stone, so we don't rush. We just keep at it day by day until a piece is finally done and ready to go.
