Stitchwell

You can find us at No. 72b, right near the Amman Kovil Stop on Sathy Main Road. It’s a loud place because of all the buses and bikes rushing past all day long. We are in the Saravanampatti Post area, and honestly, the dust from the road gets inside no matter how much we clean the windows. Stitchwell is just a small shop where we spend our mornings and evenings. There is a lot of fabric piled up on the big wooden table in the middle of the room. We use old-style measuring tapes that are starting to fray at the edges. Sometimes the fans don't work right and it gets quite hot in here during the summer months. We usually have the radio on a local station just for some background noise while we work. People stop in after getting off the bus at the temple stop. They usually want something adjusted or a button replaced. We don't do anything too complicated, just honest work with our hands and the machines. It’s a bit cramped with all the boxes of zippers and buttons we’ve collected over the years. My nephew helps out sometimes when he isn't busy at school. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop on Sathy Main Road, just a place that stays open and does the job. Most of our day is spent looking down at the fabric and making sure the lines are somewhat straight. It’s quiet in its own way despite the traffic outside.
