Salim Ali Centre For Ornithology And Natural History

The Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History has its office at 33 E, Mumma Naiker Street. This is over in the P N Pudur area of Coimbatore. It is a relatively quiet neighborhood, which fits the kind of work we do since we are always looking at birds and the environment. The building isn't anything special to look at, just a regular place where we keep our research notes and field equipment. Inside, you will find lots of books on local wildlife and maps of the hills around Coimbatore. Most of us spend more time outside in the woods or at the local lakes than we do sitting behind a desk. When we are in the office, we are usually just typing up what we found or planning where to go next. The street is narrow and sometimes the neighbors' kids are playing right outside the door. It feels more like a small community center than a formal research institute. We have been in P N Pudur for quite a long time, so we are a familiar sight to the people living here. Our furniture is a bit old and the shelves are overflowing with journals, but it works for us. We don't need a polished corporate space to do what we do. It is just a base of operations for a group of people who care about the natural world and want to understand it a bit better through daily observation.
