Ramana Garments

Ramana Garments is over at 195, Thattan Thottam. It’s a quiet enough area most of the time. We’ve got a small shop here where we do all our sewing and packing. It isn't a very big place, just a few rooms filled with sewing machines and tables for cutting. There is usually a pile of scraps on the floor by the end of the day. We try to sweep up before we go home, but it’s a constant battle. We make all sorts of garments, mostly stuff for everyday wear. There are about ten of us working here now. We’ve known each other for years, so it feels more like a family than a regular job. We listen to the radio while we work to keep things lively. Sometimes the fabric deliveries are late and we have to scramble to catch up, but we always manage. We don’t have a website or a marketing person. Most people find out about us by just walking in or through a friend. We focus on making sure the stitches are straight and the buttons don't fall off. It’s simple work, but we take pride in doing it ourselves. The building at 195 is just a plain house that we converted into a workspace. It suits us fine and the rent is fair. We just keep our heads down and work.
