Metro Engineering

Metro Engineering is located at No. 82, Sarla Illam in Udaya Nagar. We are right opposite Fathima School, so we hear the kids playing during their recess every day. The building is an old one and we’ve taken over the ground floor for our engineering work. There are heavy lathes and milling machines bolted to the floor, and they make a lot of noise when they’re running. The smell of cutting oil is pretty strong inside. We don't have a receptionist or anything; you just walk in and find one of us covered in grease. We spend a lot of time looking at blueprints that are stained with coffee or thumbprints. The walls are painted a dull blue that’s started to flake off near the ceiling. We’ve got a small backyard where we keep the raw metal stock, and it’s always a bit of a mess back there. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so we try to be careful about making too much noise too late in the evening. Our desks are old wooden ones that have been scratched up over the years. We keep a calendar on the wall where we mark off the days with a big red pen. It’s a simple shop where we focus on getting the parts made correctly. We’ve been at this Sarla Illam address for years and most of the neighbors know us by name. It’s just us doing the daily grind and keeping the machines turning.
