Terra Art Studio

You can find Terra Art Studio at No. 6-46 on the Kurumbhapalayam Main Road in Madukkarai. It’s a bit different from the other businesses around here. We spend most of our time with our hands covered in clay or paint. The studio is a long room with plenty of tables and shelves that are sagging under the weight of unfinished projects. It’s usually a bit of a mess, with dried mud on the floor and brushes soaking in jars of water. The light comes in through the front windows in the morning, which is the best time to work. We don’t have a fancy showroom. People just come in and see what we are currently making. The Kurumbhapalayam road can get quite busy with people commuting, so there’s a backdrop of car engines while we work. We have a small kiln in the back that we run a few times a week. It makes the whole place warm, which is nice in the winter but a bit much in the summer. We’ve been here for a few years now and have slowly filled every corner with bits and pieces of art. It’s a slow process, making things by hand. We don’t rush it. We just show up every day and see what we can finish. It’s a simple way to spend the time, really. We just enjoy the quiet work when the traffic dies down.
