Geco Grinding Centre

Out here in Singanallur, specifically at No. 636 Shanmuga Nagar, the sound of grinding machines is pretty much the background music of our lives. We’re on Trichy Road, which is always humming with traffic. Coimbatore is a hub for this kind of work, so we fit right in. The shop is usually covered in a bit of metal dust and oil. We don't spend much time worrying about how clean the floors are because they just get dirty again five minutes later. Our day starts early before the sun gets too hot. We take on all sorts of grinding jobs. It’s loud, and you have to wear earplugs if you’re standing near the machines for too long. Most of us have been doing this for years, so we know the machines inside out. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. Just the workspace and a small area where we keep the finished parts. People bring in their components, we do the grinding, and they pick them up. It’s simple. Trichy Road can be a nightmare during rush hour, so we try to get our deliveries out early. We eat lunch together in the back or grab something from the local mess nearby. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy from early morning until late in the evening every day.
