Chellam Traders

Our place, Chellam Traders, is located at No. 214 on Kasthuribai First Street. It’s in the Ganapathy area, right near Old Shakti Road. It’s a bit of a mix of houses and small businesses around here. We’ve been operating from this building for a good number of years. It’s a simple shopfront where we keep our stock and manage the daily books. We deal with various goods, so the inventory changes quite a bit depending on what’s in demand. The street is narrow, so when a truck comes to unload, things can get a little crowded. We try to be quick about it so the neighbors don’t get annoyed. Inside, it’s mostly just shelves and a small counter where we sit. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, just the ceiling fans and the breeze from the front door. It’s a local business, so we know many of the people who walk by every day. Some of them stop just to say hello or ask how things are going. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers and checking the items that come in. It’s not glamorous work, but it’s what we do. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy to get around to it. We just focus on making sure the orders are correct and folks get what they came for. It’s a steady pace.
