If you find yourself on Nehru Street in B.R. Puram, you’ll see us right across from the old Tirupur Textiles building. Esal Press Tools has been operating out of this spot in Peelamedu for a good number of years. It’s a noisy area, especially with all the textile activity nearby, but we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the street. Inside our shop, it’s all about the heavy metal and the presses. We spend our mornings setting up the dies and making sure the machines are running smooth. It’s the kind of work where you’re on your feet all day. Your hands get stained with grease and you probably have a bit of metal shavings on your clothes by the time you head home. We don't have a big sales team or anything like that. Usually, it's just the owner or one of the senior guys answering the phone when it rings. We make tools for pressing and shaping metal, and it’s a specific craft that takes a lot of patience. Sometimes a job takes longer than we thought because the steel is stubborn, but that's just part of the trade. We like being in this part of town. It feels like a place where things actually get built. There’s a small shop around the corner that makes the best snacks in the afternoon, which helps when the workload gets heavy. We just keep our heads down and do the job.
