Charu Arts & Printing

If you are walking down 1st Street in Gandhipuram, you will eventually see us. Charu Arts & Printing is tucked in near Kovai Residency, so it is easy to find if you know the area. The shop is not very large, but we make the space work for everything we do. Most days, the front door is left open to let a bit of a breeze in, though it also lets in the street noise from the bikes passing by. We have some old wooden shelves for the paper stocks and a heavy desk where the computer sits. It stays pretty busy here. We usually have a few different jobs going at once on the printers in the back. You can hear them humming all afternoon. People from around the neighborhood stop in quite a bit. Sometimes they stay to chat while things are running. It is a bit cramped when more than two people are inside, but that is just how the building is laid out. We try to keep the counters clear, but there is always a stack of something nearby. The lighting is a bit bright, but it helps when we are looking at the fine print on the sheets. We have been at this location for a while now. Gandhipuram has changed some, but 1st Street stays pretty much the same. We just keep the shop open and take care of the printing work that comes through the door. Usually, we are there from morning until late evening, just checking the colors and making sure the cuts are okay.
