Aravind Eye Hospital

Aravind Eye Hospital is located on Avinashi Road, near the Civil Aerodrome Post. It is a large facility and we see a massive number of patients every single day. People come from very far away, sometimes traveling for hours just to get here early in the morning. The halls are wide but they are almost always full of people sitting and waiting. We have a lot of different stations for testing vision and checking eyes. It can feel a bit overwhelming if it is your first time here because there is so much going on. The staff is always moving around, calling out names and guiding people to the next room. We have many doctors and technicians working in shifts. The building is designed to handle the crowd, so it is very functional. There are not many decorations, just a lot of signs and benches. Outside, Avinashi Road is one of the busiest roads in the area, so there is always a lot of traffic near the entrance. We have a large area for registration where the queues can get quite long. It is a lot of hard work for everyone involved. We just try to get through the list of patients so that everyone gets seen before we close for the day. It is a place dedicated to one thing, and we stay very busy doing it. The sun gets very bright in the afternoons.
