If you come to Ward Number 3 in Sadulpur, you’ll find us at Sudarshan Bhan’s place. It’s a bit unusual to talk about shrimp and fish farming here in Churu because everyone knows how dry and dusty it gets in this part of Rajasthan. But we are making it work. Sudarshan and the rest of the team spend most of their time looking at water levels and checking on the health of the stock. It’s a lot of manual labor, cleaning out tanks and making sure the feed is distributed properly. We don’t have some big, shiny factory; it’s more of a local operation where everyone knows everyone else’s name. The sun in Churu can be brutal, so we’re often out there in the early morning hours or late in the evening when it’s more bearable. There’s always something that needs fixing, whether it’s a pump acting up or a delivery that’s running late on those bumpy roads. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there, just trying to provide something different for the farmers around Sadulpur. It’s a learning process for all of us, and some days are definitely harder than others when the weather doesn't cooperate or the market prices fluctuate. We just take it one day at a time and try to keep things running smoothly for the families involved in the fish project.
