Working in the Lic Building means being part of a very specific routine every day. Lic Of India has been around for so long that the atmosphere inside feels heavy with history and a lot of paper. You walk in and you see rows of desks, some people typing, others looking through thick ledgers that have been around since before the computers took over. It’s not a flashy place, but it’s sturdy. We spend a lot of our time talking to people who come in with their policy documents, sometimes looking a bit confused about the fine print. We sit them down and go through the details one by one. The building itself has that old-school government feel to it, with high ceilings and fans that have seen better days. During lunch, everyone gathers to eat and talk about everything except work. There’s always a bit of a queue at the counters, and you can hear the constant sound of stamps hitting paper. We don’t have a lot of modern decor or fancy slogans on the walls. It’s mostly just posters about various plans and some old wooden clocks that tick loudly. Every day feels a bit like the last one, but there’s a sense of comfort in that. We just focus on the people walking through the door and the files sitting on our desks. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from the moment we unlock the doors until the lights go out.
