You can find Upaya Handlooms at A-21 in Anand Vihar. If you know the Ramrakhi Hotel, we are just right behind it. It’s a convenient spot because everyone knows the hotel, so it’s easy to give directions. We work with handlooms, so the sound of the machines is something you hear as soon as you get close to the gate. It’s a rhythmic sound that we’ve all grown used to. Inside, it’s mostly just big looms taking up all the space. We have a small corner with a desk for the accounts and the phone. There are stacks of colorful threads everywhere. We do things the slow way, by hand, which takes time. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that. People just know we are here. Most of our workers live nearby, so they just walk to the workshop. It’s a bit dusty because of all the cotton, but that’s just part of the job. We have tea twice a day, and everything stops for ten minutes. It’s a simple business. We don't have big goals of being famous, we just want to keep the looms moving and the quality decent. It's hard work and it's hot in the summer, but we’ve been doing it for a long time now. We aren't trying to change the world, just keeping a bit of the old way of making cloth alive.
