You can find us at 36 Jhanda Gali. It’s a narrow street, but that’s where Dhanshree Thewa Jewels has its home. If you’ve ever walked down this lane, you know it’s always got something going on. We work in a small space because that’s all we really need for the kind of jewelry we make. Thewa work takes a lot of patience and steady hands. Most of the day is spent sitting at the bench with small tools and pieces of gold and glass. It gets pretty quiet when we’re concentrating. We don’t have a big storefront with lights and displays. Most people find us because they know the address or someone told them about the work we do. It’s a traditional way of doing things, passed down through the family. Sometimes the lighting in the Gali isn’t great, so we have to use extra lamps at our desks. We see the same faces walking past the door every morning. It’s a tight-knit spot. We don't spend money on marketing or anything like that. We just focus on the pieces we are currently working on. Each one takes time, and you can’t really rush it. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing on the details. We just hope the work looks okay when someone picks up their order. That’s pretty much how we spend our time here at number 36. It is slow work but it is what we know how to do.
