Hindustan Zinc - Lead Smelter And Captive Power Plant

Working at the Hindustan Zinc site here in Chittorgarh is a big task. We are involved with the lead smelter and the power plant that keeps everything running. Our office is based out of the Engg. Hostel, which is a bit of a landmark in this part of Rajasthan. It’s a massive industrial setup, and there is always something happening, whether it’s maintenance on the smelter or checking the output at the power plant. The landscape around here is quite rugged, and the sun can be really punishing during the day. We have a lot of engineers and technical staff moving in and out all the time. It feels less like a traditional business and more like a small city of its own because of the scale. We don't really do much in terms of local sales like a shop would; it’s all about the large-scale production and making sure the plant stays operational around the clock. My day usually involves a lot of paperwork and coordinating with the different shifts. We eat our meals together at the mess and talk shop mostly. It’s a hard-working atmosphere where everyone has a specific job to do. We aren't here to impress anyone with fancy talk. We just focus on the technical side of things and keeping the machinery in good shape. It’s a unique place to work, quite far from the noise of the main city, but very busy in its own way.
