Hindustan Construction Company Ltd.

This office is located at the RAPP-5&6 site near the Anushakti post office in Chittorgarh district. It is a long way from any big city, and you have to go via Kota to get here. I work as the document controller for Hindustan Construction Company Ltd at this site. It is a very industrial environment, being part of a large power project. The office itself is often dusty because of all the construction activity going on outside. We have rows of filing cabinets filled with technical drawings and safety logs. It is not a place for anyone who likes a clean, quiet office. There is constant noise from the heavy machinery and the wind blowing across the dry landscape of Rajasthan. My day is mostly spent making sure that all the paperwork is in order and that the engineers have the latest versions of the plans they need. It is a lot of responsibility because mistakes in the documents can cause big problems on the site. We wear heavy boots and hard hats most of the time. There is no marketing fluff here; we are all just focused on the technical details of the job. We eat our lunch in a small break area and talk about the progress of the reactors. It is hard, dry work but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing the project grow a little bit more each day. It’s just how things are here.
