Barkath Traders

Barkath Traders is over at 1-9-18, Subedar Street in Punganur. It’s a quiet enough street most days, which I like. We’ve been here for several years now. The shop is small but we make the most of the space we have. I’ve got shelves lining every wall, right up to the ceiling. I have to use a little wooden ladder to reach the top ones, and my knees aren't as good as they used to be. We sell a variety of things that the people around here need. It’s a lot of grains, spices, and general household items. We know our customers by name usually. It’s that kind of place. I don’t believe in those big flashy signs you see in the city. We just have the name painted on the board outside. It’s faded a bit over time, but people still find us. The morning starts with me opening up the shutters and sweeping the front step. It’s a habit now. Sometimes the neighbor comes by for tea and we talk about the weather or how the crops are doing. We don't have any big corporate goals. We just want to keep the shop running and make sure we have what people are looking for. It’s a simple business, built on just being here every day. We don't change things much because the old way works just fine for us and our neighbors.
