Up here at Popular Minerals in Khwaja Bagh, the days usually start before the sun is even fully up. We have been in this same spot for a while, and the neighborhood knows us well. There is a lot of movement in and out of the storage area because we deal with different kinds of minerals that come in from various sites. Khwaja Bagh is a busy place, and our yard is right in the thick of it. You won’t find any polished marble floors in our office. It’s mostly concrete and stacks of ledgers where we keep track of what’s coming in and what’s going out. Some days the yard is so full that it’s hard to maneuver the vehicles, but we always find a way to make it work. The guys working here are used to the heavy lifting and the grit that comes with this job. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for the next shipment to arrive. It’s a practical business. We don’t do a lot of talking unless it’s about the weight of a load or the schedule for the next week. Sometimes the machinery acts up and we have to spend the afternoon fixing things, but that’s just how it goes. We stay busy enough that the weeks feel short. If you stop by, you’ll probably find someone sorting through samples or checking the scales.
