Our hospital is located right by Hotel Meghna in the Chapaguri Part-II area of Bongaigaon. Being in Chirang district, we see a lot of people who come in from the surrounding rural areas as well as the town. It’s an interesting spot to be in, because we are so close to the hotel, which makes it easy for people to give directions to find us. The hospital itself is a simple building where we do our daily work. It’s not a corporate facility with a lot of rules about how things look; we just focus on having the right tools and enough beds for the people who need them. Most days are spent talking to patients and their families about what’s going on. We have a small group of doctors and nurses who have been with us for a while, so we all know how the others work. The hallways can get a bit crowded when it’s visiting hours, but we usually manage to keep things under control. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to switch over to the generator, which is just part of living and working in Assam. We don’t have a big fancy website or anything like that, we just rely on people knowing where we are and what we do. It’s a practical place for practical people. We stay busy with the routine stuff and try to make sure the building stays clean and ready for the next person who walks in.
