Our name is a bit of a mouthful, Bhaktshreshtha Kamalakarpant Laxman Walawalkar Hospital Diagnostic & Research Centre. Most people around Chiplun just know where we are in Shreekshetra Dervan. We are set in a pretty rural part of the region. The hospital is quite large for being out here. We have a lot of different departments, but it still feels like a local operation. The hallways are long and sometimes the lights flicker a bit in the older sections. We do research and diagnostics right here on site. It saves people the long trip to the bigger cities. The staff works hard, and you can see them running back and forth between the buildings. Dervan is a quiet place otherwise. We get people coming in from all the small hamlets in the Chiplun taluka. The air is fresher here than in the city, which is nice. We have a canteen that serves basic food, and it’s usually full of families. We don’t have fancy marketing brochures or a big PR team. We just have our doctors and the local people who come to us. It’s a practical place. We’ve been part of this landscape for a long time now. You can see the hills in the distance from the upper floors. It’s just a steady, busy place where we handle whatever comes through the gate every single morning. We have our routine and we stick to it. There is always tea brewing in the back room for us.
