National High School

National High School is located out in Shanthi Nagar, which is part of Thavaraghatta near Shimoga. It’s quite green around here, especially after the rains start in the middle of the year. The school itself is a sturdy old building that has stood for quite some time. We have a lot of space around us, which is a nice change from the crowded schools in the city. Every day starts with the sound of the bell echoing across the fields. The students walk or cycle from the surrounding areas to get here. We have a few rooms for each grade, and the desks are the heavy kind that have been around for decades. It’s a simple setup, really. We don’t have much in the way of high-tech equipment, but we have plenty of chalk and blackboards. The staff here are mostly locals who understand the pace of life in Shimoga. We deal with things as they come, whether it's planning for a local festival or just getting through the mid-term exams. The kids are energetic and keep us on our toes. During the lunch break, they’re usually out in the yard playing tag or sitting under the trees. We try to keep things orderly, but with a bunch of teenagers, it’s always a little loud. It’s just an honest, local high school. We do our work, the kids do theirs, and we all head home when the sun starts to go down.
